About Us

For Pet's Sake is a tax-exempt organization promoting animal welfare in Northwest Arkansas. We are located in Springdale, Arkansas. Our mission:

  • Aiding the elderly with pet expenses.
  • Starting a microchipping program for all adopted pets in the NWA area.
  • Raising public awareness of animal welfare through educational programs in area schools.
  • Networking with other animal welfare organizations.

Contributions to For Pets' Sake are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. If you have any questions about donating to us online, please contact us at forpetsake@hotmail.com.

Best Friends Senior Program

Our Best Friends senior program is in full swing with food donations from Petco, flea collars donated by Hartz, and a pledge of cash cards from Wal-mart. Many senior citizens on limited incomes can benefit from our program, which will help them to afford their companion animals. We are now accepting applications for seniors in Northwest Arkansas who would like to have a pet but need assistance with any of the following:

  • Financial aid for vet care ($75 max per year, one office visit).
  • Transportation for the pet and owner to the vet or groomer.
  • Pet food.
  • Pet sitting (in case of hospitalization).

Applicants must qualify by age (60 years and older) and annual income (max $18,000) and be a resident of Northwest Arkansas for financial assistance. FPS believes that these services will serve seniors in our area well, and also meshes well with the Fayetteville Animal Shelter's program that aims to match older pets with seniors. Contact us at forpetsake@hotmail.com if you or someone you know is in need of assistance and would benefit from our Best Friends Program.

Microchipping Clinics

We hope to raise money to purchase microchips and microchipping equipment, as well as scanners, so that we can hold local microchipping clinics. Local shelters charge around $20 for this service, plus an additional $18 or more to register the microchips. We have found a more cost-effective microchip, with FREE national registration. We are hoping that we can charge a fee of $15 to microchip AND register pets, thus making microchipping very affordable for ALL pet owners. It is our belief that if all pets were microchipped, fewer would wind up in shelters.

Educational Program

Our educational program will be underway soon. We recently found an excellent source of educational materials relating to pet care. We plan to use the materials to teach elementary school children about our responsibilties to our pets and how to properly care for them. The materials will include age-appropriate newsletters, coloring books, etc. Our volunteers will visit area schools to speak about important issues such as spay/neuter, humane treatment of animals, and why wild animals don't make good pets. Ultimately, we would love to find someone with a service animal or therapy dog that can accompany us on our "mission".
