Kimberly and the Lab Mix Puppy
FPS President Laurie Beckman had a call from Kimberly in Georgia who had adopted a 3 month old Lab/Australian Shepherd from the animal shelter in Clarksville, AR. She paid all of the fees and the pup was to be neutered on Thursday. She called Laurie on Monday asking if FPS could transport him for her. Laurie explained how limited our scope and range are but also gave her some internet resources to check out. Kimberly had tried all of those leads and still had no hope. She had no clue about Arkansas resources and didn't even know where Clarksville was. Laurie told her I would try to get her some resources in the Little Rock area. The next time Laurie spoke to Kimberly, she had found transportation from Clarksville to Little Rock and she had a friend who would be going to West Memphis on Saturday. The friend was willing to drive the dog from West Memphis back to Georgia. Now all Laurie needed to do was to find someone to take him from Little Rock to West Memphis.
Laurie called all of her contacts in Little Rock to ask if they knew any dog lovers going East this weekend. No one. She called the Humane Society, Animal Control of North Little Rock, and her own vet clinic. No one. She called the TV station for Channel 11 in Little Rock hoping they would put something on the air to get a volunteer. They said they'd discuss it with the news director. Laurie sent a mass email to everyone one she knew to be of a kind heart. And, reluctantly, she called Kimberly back had to tell her she found no one to help her.
The next day, Laurie received an e-mail reply from an associate at Heifer International, Todd Montgomery. He was to drive to his folks' house in Forest City and said was glad to go the extra 30 minutes to help out !! Laurie called Kimberly and told her the news and was sending Todd an email of thanks when her phone rang and it was the guy at the Little Rock TV station calling to say they would do a piece about the puppy getting a new home for the holidays!!
What a heartwarming story of a volunteer who just wouldn't quit ... what a lucky puppy! |
Scamp/Impa
 |
Scamp came to us from a family who loved her dearly, but just couldn't take care of her anymore. Her new owner has named her Impa. In an Asian language it means "four" (Impa is the 4th member of their family). Here is a message from Impa's new owner: "I wanted to drop you a line and let you know how well Impah is doing in her new home! She gets along beautifully with her new 'brother and sister' Luke and Kira, and really seems to enjoy their company. She's especially fond of Kira and likes to run around with her outside and bark at things happening on the other side of the fence. Impah is eating well and my vet said she was in very good health for a dog who will be 11 in February. Thanks to everyone at FPS for helping find this wonderful old girl a new home. I'm so glad it was with me!! She is really a treasure and adopting a senior dog has many, many rewards. I only wish more people would consider older dogs when they decide to adopt a rescue or shelter dog. Thanks again, and I will send along some other pictures soon." We are so proud of Impa and her new forever family!

Baxter
 |
Baxter is a young pup who was adopted from a local shelter, and then his family suddenly had to relocate and couldn't bring him along. Baxter quickly found his forever family. His new family has had several small dogs, but apparently had some negative experiences with the little fellas. Friends and family have sung the praises of large-breed dogs. So, they saw Baxter and fell in love! Baxter now lives in Springdale and has a new brother - a kindergarten aged child! Baxter's new family will be taking a lot of time (and love) to train him. Remember, he's still just a puppy! We're so proud of Baxter - and we'll certainly miss him. But we're happy he's finally found his forever home! |
Olyve
 |
Olyve is a young chocolate laborador retriever pup. She was first adopted when she was about 5 months old from an individual giving dogs away in front of a Wal-Mart in Missouri. Her new owner brought young Olyve home and put her in a yard with several other dogs and didn't get the appropriate amount of socialization. Shortly thereafter, Olyve got pregnant (Olyve has since been spayed). Olyve found a new forever home with a great family in Ft. Smith who has time to work with her, train her, and walk her daily. They had a chocolate lab once before and was looking for a dog just like Olyve to make their family complete. Her new family saw her on our website and drove all the way to Springdale to see her. It was love at first sight! The three boys played catch with her in the yard for a long time and the bond was strong straight away. Olvye's great new home is a house on 10 city lots with a big fenced area where she can run and retrieve tennis balls every day! Just before they left, her new Dad stroked her muzzle while Olyve smiled at him and he said "You've got a new home now, Girl." Now doesn't that just bring a tear to your eye?

Ginger
 |
Ginger and Sugar came to us because their owner was unable to care for them but wanted to find them a good home. Ginger's new forever family found her at the 2006 Petco Adoption Event in Fayetteville. They had been looking for a new cocker for several months when they met Ginger. They fell in love with her immediately! We're so happy for Ginger and we know she's going to fit right in with her new family!
Here's an update from her new forever family: "How can I possibly express how very much we ABSOLUTELY LOVE Ginger? She is the sweetest, kindest, most playful fuzzer ever! We had friends come by to meet her and they brought a laundry basket full of treats, new toys and a pooper scooper! Ginger immidiately went for the stuffed animals. Unfortunately, the stuffing doesn't last too long. So the Friday before Easter we took Ginger PETCO and found the perfect rubber squeakie chicken leg toy. It is her favorite and she can play catch and tug of war with it through an entire hour of American Idol (I know this from first hand experience - and I loved it more than Ginger!!). Again, let me tell you how very much we all love her. I had forgotten how great it was to have a spaniel dog sleep at your feet. Thank you soooooooo very much for placing her with us."

Sugar/Rico
 |
Just a puppy, Sugar spent time in a foster home until his forever Mom found him on our website. His new Mom drove all the way from Kansas City with her daughter and her black cocker Paco to pick him up. She fell in love with him right away! Sugar was a bit timid around Paco at first, but soon he was giving Paco big, wet kisses. We can tell they are going to get along famously! We'll miss you Sugar, but we know you have found the perfect forever home! Here's an update from his new owner: "Rico, (aka Sugar), is the pride and joy of my family. He and Paco get along great. They are always playing and running. They wrestle with each other and then fall asleep next to each other. Paco licks Rico’s head like a very caring big brother. They share toys and eat out of the same bowl at the same time. They both sleep with me. My son and his family were here from
NJ for Easter and they all fell in love with Rico. They have an 8 month old baby and Rico loved her and her toys. He's learning new things: he knows what 'stay,' 'sit' and 'kiss for mommy' mean. We all love him so much. His presence has made Paco mellow. I can tell Paco really loves him as he looks for him when he wanders into another room in the house. He fits right in with the family and in the house and everyone says he looks like he has always been there. We are all so crazy about him." |
Ellie/Maddy
 |
Ellie was a stray JRT mix puppy who had a very nice foster family looking out for her while waitng for her forever family to find her. She is at home with her new owners now, and they have renamed her Maddy. They are very happy with the new addition to the family, and she is already having fun with her big brother dogs (two Viszlas) and her kitty sister! Her new owners report: "Tuff loves to play and wrestle with her. Logan mostly just tolerates her! Her training is going well. She knows her name and comes when we call her. She can be off-leash at the barn now and loves getting to run as fast as she can. Last night we were putting around on the 4-wheeler and letting the dogs run. Maddy ran until she was pooped … we had to give her a ride! She’s just like a baby, she’ll go and go and go and then crash. For now she stays in a crate while I’m at school and she knows how to 'go in her house.' It's taken a little bit of adjustment for all of us, but it sure won’t take long for her to be just like the big dogs." |
McMurphy Sextuplets and Momma Lucy Lou
 |
These six puppies were found on the side of the road with their chocolate lab mother (Lucy Lou) and a bag of dog food. A good samaritan found them and took them in. All six puppies found forever homes with "friends of the foster home" and the good samaritan kept Lucy Lou! It brings tears of joy to our eyes to report on a great "case closed" like this one! |
Smokey
 |
Smokey is a 5-year old pedigreed pug. He came to FPS because his owner could no longer care for him. It wasn't long before Smokey found his forever home with a new loving family (pictured at left)! We love you Smokey! |
Nola
 |
Nola was a very sweet and friendly young dog. She came to us about 15 pounds underweight, but after a few weeks of good eats she gained that weight back. Nola now has a forever home in the Centerton/Gravette area and has two great kids and another dog to call her family. We are so happy for Nola!

Calvin and Carbon
 |
Calvin and Carbon are two VERY fortunate little kittens! For Pets' Sake received a call that there were some tiny kittens that needed care, as they had become separated from their mother. We found a foster home for them with a special lady, Sherri, who nursed them back to health while at the same time trying to wean them. They were sickly when they started out, but they have blossomed into two healthy and terribly curious kitties!
As you can see from the photos, they are both still very small, but they are becoming quite playful! Sherri has decided to keep one of the kittens, Calvin. The other kitten, Carbon, will go to the neighbor who helped Sherri to care for the kitties. Don't you love happy endings? :)

Sparky/Humphries
 |
Poor Sparky and a littermate (yellow labs) were dumped near the woods. Sparky whimpered so loudly at night that a kind young lady housed him in her garage till she could get in touch with us. When he was found he was very thin, but he really filled out after having a good diet. Sparky's new owners re-named him Humphries, and he now has some new buddies (two other dogs) to romp with! Here is Humphries with his forever family. |
Beau
 |
Beau (short for Beauregard) is a big-boned, easy-going fella! He was found (along with his brother - estimated at 6 months old) abandoned by the side of the road near Silaom Springs. He is a full-blooded Redbone Coonhound, and he certainly has the coonhound instincts! He's a big lunk of a pup, who loves attention and hugs! He gets along well with other dogs. He has a brother, Bubba (see below). |
Bubba
 |
Bubba is brother to the other coonhound pup, Beau. Bubba is a wonderful guy--calm and affectionate. What we admire most about Bubba's disposition is his courage! He is a bit smaller than his big brother, Beau, but he probably doesn't even realize it! He is not afraid to come up to someone for a pet, and craves attention! |
Tree and Buterfly
 |
Here are Tree and his little sister, Butterfly! They are lab/dachschund mixes (at least, that's what we believe). They look a lot like a labs, although Tree has white marks on his chest, and stubby little legs like a dachschund (wiener dog). When found, they were 3-4 months old. |
